I went to Long Point today (April 7) in search of the Eurasian Wigeon, Common
Teal and White-fronted Geese, and came up empty! Would have been three lifers!

Birding in general was excellent, though.

>From the lookout on Front Street between 16 (Forestry Farms) and hwy42 were 5
>SANDHILL CRANES, 1 NORTHERN SHOVELER, also GREEN-WINGED TEAL, MALLARD,
>AMERICAN WIGEON, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER.

At Backus Heritage Village campground were SONG SPARROW, NORTHERN FLICKER,
EASTERN BLUEBIRD, EASTERN PHOEBE, DARK-EYED JUNCO,

At the Big Creek WMA marsh were also RING-NECKED DUCK, GREATER SCAUP and
BUFFLEHEAD, HOODED MERGANSER.

Across the street, scoping the Inner Bay were also REDHEADS, MUTE SWAN,
CANVASBACK, RUDDY DUCK, YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON (a pair in the reeds!)
COMMON MERGANSER, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, EARED GREBE, HORNED GREBE,
PIED-BILLED GREBE and BONAPARTE'S GULL.

Also seen on various sideroads were BLUE-WINGED TEAL, WOOD DUCK, AMERICAN BLACK
DUCK, CANADA GOOSE, CHIPPING SPARROW, TREE SWALLOW, NORTHERN CARDINAL, AMERICAN
CROW, MOURNING DOVE, STARLING, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, BC CHICKADEE, BROWN
CREEPER, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, AM ROBINs everywhere, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW,
FOX SPARROW, COMMON GRACKLE, RED-TAILED HAWK, TURKEY VULTURE.

Others I met reported four GREATER YELLOWLEGS in a flooded field north of the
point on Hwy 59, but I couldn't find them.

Many were seen in multiple places, those are just the ones that I'm sure of! No
new birds, but a lot of fantastic birding!
