In keeping with the recent sightings of northward migrating waterfowl, 2
Northern Pintail (a male and a female) were seen late this afternoon on Staines
Pond, visible from Morningside Avenue just south of Staines Road. Thanks to Al
Wormington's excellent post for alerting us to the timing and ci
Sue and I birded Humber Bay East and found the Northern Pintail in the pond on
the north side of the entrance road on the left side of the bridge. The NOPI
was swimming quite close to the banks.

Today I scoured the western shores of lake ontario from Grimsby to Etobicoke
and would have to say that the highlight of my day (aside from meeting a lovely
fellow birder at Colonel Samuel Smith Park) was finding a single male Northern
Pintail Duck in Ben Machree Park, P
Apparently the iOntbirds App does not work as advertised and send the location
information. Humber Bay East is at the foot of Parklawn in Toronto.

We had a nice surprise at Colonel Sam Smith: in and amongst the Canada
Geese, Gadwalls, and Mallards was a Northern Pintail. It was quite close to
shore and seemed unbothered by even the dogs! Also present were rafts and
rafts of Scaup/Redheads and 4 Trumpeter Swans.

Today had one male Northern Pintail (first I'd ever seen here), a
small group of Buffleheads and some Common Goldeneyes, a Hooded
Merganser female, and a pair of Common Mergansers at the duck pond at
Sulphur Spring CA south of Hanover. Also the usual Mallards and Black
Ducks and a few Canada Geese.
Hi Ontbirders:
At the Billings Bridge on the Rideau River in Ottawa, the ducks are gathering
in large numbers on the stretch of the river still unfrozen on both sides of
the bridge. Among the hundreds of Mallards and Black Ducks, a female
Red-breasted Merganser and a female Bufflehead have join
