Today I left Mississauga "bright" and early to try for the Boreal Owl reported yesterday by Bruce Ripley at Amherst Island. Unfortunately, despite much searching by a number of birders, the Boreal was not found. If the Owl is relocated I hope it is reported as I would have no hesitation in trying for it again as it is top of my wish list having missed them 4 years ago through procrastination-I have never seen one. To add insult to injury, nobody, to my knowledge, found any Saw-whets or Long-eareds either. We had good looks at the immature Snowy Owl though , which can be found near the pond on the KFN property on the extreme east end of the island.

To get to the Owl Woods turn left (east) at the stop sign once you get off the ferry ($5 charge) in Stella and proceed 3.4 Km and then turn right onto the seasonal Marshall Forty-Foot road (almost opposite house Number 2350). Proceed 1.2 Km to the S on the road and park to the side.

To get to Amherst Island take the 401 and exit at 593 and go south 10 Km on County Road #4 to Milhaven. Turn right (west) onto Hwy. 33 and the ferry dock comes up very shortly on the left.
