David Millar and I birded on Amherst Island on Mon. and Tues..
Most notable sightings were:
Jan 17 : Boreal Owl (in pine near trail beyond feeders in Owl Woods;
absent from this location on Tues); Great Gray Owl (in dense conifers at
far end of Owl Woods); Snowy Owl (on the southernmost osprey platform at
east end of island); Short-eared Owl (foraging over fields on lakeshore
west of Marshall Forty Foot Rd). We saw one each of these species.
Additionally. on Jan 18th, we saw an adult Bald Eagle flying east along the
North Channel shore west of Stella and a Brown Thrasher in the underbrush
near the feeders in the Owl Woods.
