Today at 1230 I saw a Great Gray Owl on the 2nd Line of Innisfil,East of the 20th Sideroad. It was obeserved on the south side of the road in a small Cedar, near the end of the 2nd Line.It flew a little furter south of the Road when I stopped (as I noticed it).It was accompanied by a couple of Crows which voiced their concerns, but kept their distance. The 2nd Line is the first concession road north of Hwy 89 and runs East West from Hwy 400(no exit) to Cooks Bay.Gilford is about halfway between Bradford and Barrie. Hi Ontbirders RE the above, was very disappointed to hear about the "incident" at the above site. I guess there are always some who just won't learn. I had stated in my email about the bird that the owner of the land where the feeders are was "adamant" about not disturbing his birds., his because he's feeding them . Please read the Martin and the Preikseitis messages carefully before you try for the bird. My email on the subject was posted on the 28th evening. The feeder owner is not kidding neither is the owner of the field on which the birders were trespassing with permission. For ----'s sale don't't ruin it for those that may come after. I thought we at least were a little more careful with our manners. I hope OFO will get the names of those who chased the bird and post them for all to see and be warned. It's a great bird - don't spoil it!!! With disgust, Tom Hayman Happy New Year nevertheless Tom Hayman New Year's Resolution - THINK! I was = doing an interview with the NewVR TV crew this morning on the Great Gray = Owl irruption in Simcoe County and we went to an area (Line 15 of = Oro-Medonte) just south of the City of Orillia where one owl had been = reported and found three Great Gray Owls (2 new reports) at the same = location. We found six owls at three locations this morning between = 11:00 a.m. and noon but the best time to view these owls is still = between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. when you can find more owls since they = are in the open hunting and moving around. I dead Great Gray Owl has = been reported but most of the owls are in good shape and seem to be = catching lots of Meadow Voles. We now have at 26 Great Gray Owls = confirmed in the area as of this morning. I had recorded a total of 18 = for Simcoe Country during the winter 96-97 irruption and 20 for Muskoka = during the 83-84 irruption. Numbers dropped quickly in early February = to no owls in March during those two irruptions. The best locations to view several owls are along Line 15 of Oro-Medonte = or Woodland Avenue both just south of the City of Orillia and the Muley = Point Road, conc. 8, Sideroad 20, conc. 7 loop in Ramara township = southwest of hwy 12 just east of Orillia.
