Brenda Carter and I saw a total of three Western Sandpipers at Owen Point today. The birds were seen among the various 'peeps' coming and going at the tip between 11am and 4pm. One of the Westerns was the relatively conspicuous, long-billed, bright scapulared individual that was also seen by Don Shanahan yesterday. The other two were far less obvious, and we may not have realized there were in fact two had we not been lucky enough to see them side by side (they both are rather similar in plumage and bill length etc).
The two Whimbrels took flight and headed due south flying low over the Lake around noon. So, I wouldn't be surprised if they have moved on. Also present were one adult White-rumped Sandpiper and a juv Dunlin at Owen Point today, as well as a Canada Warbler and two Black-crowned Night-Herons on Sp. 3rd.
