A week of sun and milder temperatures made for more comfortable birding conditions. A Bald Eagle was seen at Britannia on the 28th and 4 were seen from Steel Line Rd along the Eardley escarpment in the Gatineau Hills on the 29th. A juvenile Golden Eagle was reported from Steel Line as well the same day. An adult male Cooper's Hawk was seen on the 25th on the Westboro area and a Sharp-shinned Hawk has been hunting at feeders on Cumberland Ridge Rd. Remarkably absent for most of the winter were American Kestrels. One was finally spotted at Hurdman Park along Riverside Drive at Hink's Lane on the 25th. A Peregrine Falcon was seen in Aylmer the same day and an adult male Peregrine was seen several times during the week, hunting pigeons in the Carlington area. Two Wild Turkeys were in the area of Leitrim and Earl Armstrong Rd, south of the International Airport on the 24th and one has been roosting every night for at least two weeks in a large tree along Old Montréal Rd, opposite the service entrance to the Camelot Golf course. And one the group of 4 turkeys at the Duck Club feeders on March Valley Rd near Riddell Rd is continuing to practice his trick of leaping up and knocking seeds out of the feeder. The culprit was photographed on the 28th. Several reports of owls came in during the week including single Great Horned Owls; one hunting along Leitrim near Limebank and also one in the Britannia Woods. A white male Snowy Owl was seen on the 28th along Eagleson Rd, south of Brownlee, at the hydro towers. Another Snowy was on County Rd 9 south of Plantagenet on the 26th. The NORTHERN HAWK OWL, west of Almonte, was most recently reported on the 23rd, near 840 Old Union Hall Rd. Barred Owl sightings were reported from Vanier Rd at Kilroy Cres south of Pink Rd in Aylmer on the 27th and at the Jack Pine Trail near the main feeder on the 18th and 23rd. Up to 6 Short-eared Owls are still present along Earl Armstrong Rd. A Northern Saw-whet was a surprise on the 25th in the cedar hedge on Promenade Cres in Aylmer. On the 26th, a Carolina Wren was singing at 127 Catherine St in the village of St Isidore, east of Ottawa. Several American Robins, which may have been present all winter, were active in the Clyde Ave woods on the 27th and 28th. Flocks of Bohemian Waxwings continue to be reported from many locations. A White-throated Sparrow appeared in a backyard in the Carlington area on the 26th. A female HOARY REDPOLL is still a regular at the Hilda Rd feeder, most recently seen here on the 29th, and a single Pine Siskin was singing in the cedar woods along Leitrim Rd south of the airport on the 27th.
