This mornings birding produced no major rareties but there
was no shortage of birds to be found.
On South Point Trail there were at least 17 species of
Warbler including, Hooded, Golden-winged, N. Parula and many
Cape May Warblers. Other notables on South Point included
Little Gull seen off the beach and Peregrine Falcon.
Tulip Tree Trail produced much of the same warblers with a
few additions being, Prothonotary, Cerulean and
Yellow-throated Vireo.
Showers have moved in but better weather is forecasted for
the weekend, hopefully bringing new birds.

Good Birding,

Ross Wood

The Britannia Conservation Area was very good this morning (Aug 19). =
Some 17 species of warbler were present, if not more. A dull female CAPE =
MAY WARBLER was on the ridge, and a bright and very vocal WILSON'S was =
in the woods near the fenceline on the west side. A shy LINCOLN'S =
SPARROW was in the same general latter area. Another CAPE MAY, =
presumably a male, was reported from the area of the Wilson's and =
Lincoln's, but I did not see it myself.

Yesterday morning was perhaps even better. Ray Holland and I found 19 =
species of warbler, including 2 male CAPE MAYS in the spruce trees just =
east of the ridge, a CANADA WARBLER deep in the woods near the bike =
path, and 2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS near the point.

Variety was excellent over the past 2 days: all 4 regularly occurring =
vireos and 21 of the 25 regularly occurring warblers (only =
Orange-crowned, Mourning, Golden-winged and Northern Waterthrush were =
missing). Other observers might be able to add this already impressive =
list.

Directions (courtesy of Larry Neily and NeilyWorld website):

>From Highway 417 (The Queensway) take exit 129 (Greenbank & Pinecrest =
Roads). If travelling west, the 0.3 km offramp dumps you right or north =
onto Pinecrest Road. If driving east, a 0.3 km offramp brings you to =
Pinecrest/Greenbank Road, where you will turn left or north onto =
Pinecrest Road and in 0.4 km join the westbound offramp traffic. Both =
groups will now follow Pinecrest Road north 0.8 km from here to Richmond =
Road. Turn right or northeast onto Richmond and go 0.5 km, crossing =
Carling Avenue, to Poulin Avenue. Turn left or north onto Poulin and go =
0.6 km to where a right only turn puts you on Howe Street. Follow Howe =
west 0.2 km to Britannia Road. Turn right or north onto Britannia Road =
and proceed 0.8 km to Cassels Street. Turn right or east onto Cassels =
and go 0.4 km to a small parking area on the left at the Britannia =
Conservation Area.

Late this afternoon Christine Brunet and I located a female Ruff and 2 Stilt
Sandpipers at the Alfred Sewage Lagoons.

DIRECTIONS: From the town of Alfred go east on Highway 17, then turn
south on Peat Moss Road and drive for 2 km. The lagoons are on your left
(east side of road). Contact (during weekdays) Richard Villeneuve, Township
of Alfred and
Plantagenet at (613) 679-2292 for the required permit to enter the lagoons.

Photos of Ruff can be seen at http://jacquesbouvier.blogspot.com/
