Went outside around noon today to see if any of my
plants had survived this incredibly long cold freeze.
As I opened the side door I heard a Common Grackle and
called for Nancy to come and see it. After seeing it,
it flew away to the southwest and I continued my
journey into the backyard to view the damage. I got to
the back of the yard (a very short walk) and heard a
commotion of flapping feathers and saw a bird which I
initially thought was a robin fluttering and partially
caught in the chain-link fence. Once it stopped
fluttering it stood still and I saw that it was an
American Woodcock. It saw me and with wings whistling
it took flight and headed south on Renforth Rd. My
second yard-list American Woodcock two years running.

Good Birding,

Garth

While the birds are long gone the sightings were
approximately 2 blocks south of Burnhamthorpe Rd. in
Etobicoke just east of Renforth Rd.
