Hello Ontbirders,
I stumbled upon a group of 9 WILD TURKEYS today at 12:30pm. They were
feeding in a cornfield to the east of Woodley Road, just south of Long Sault
conservation area. I also saw them there on Monday, at 2:45pm. They
cautiously fed for a few minutes before sneaking off into the surrounding
woods, startled by a passing truck.
Also on Monday, around 11:30am, at Cranberry Marsh, a NORTHERN SHRIKE put
in an appearance in the shrubs along Halls Road (near the large area of
conifers on the east side of the road). Sorry for the late post, an earlier
attempt rebouned. The feeders at the north pathway yielded Pine Siskin,
House Finch, American Tree Sparrow, a few Red-winged Blackbirds, and
Brown-headed Cowbirds. Both Swamp and Song Sparrow were feeding on seeds
closer to the viewing stand.
Directions:
Long Sault Conservation Area - from the 401, exit north at #431 onto
regional road 57. Take it all the way to regional road 20 and head east.
Woodley Road is the third road in. Taking it north leads to the CA, taking
it south leads to the cornfield where the turkeys were seen, approximately 1
km in from regional road 20.
Cranberry Marsh - From Victoria Street in Whitby, turn south on Halls Road
