To contact the Science Museum, call 896-5200. Highlights of reports received November 27 through December 4 from the Niagara Frontier Region include GR. WHITE-FR. GOOSE, WILLET, EVENING GROSBEAK and BLACK-HEADED GULL. November 30 through December 2, in the Town of Cheektowaga, 3 GR. WHITE-FR. GEESE were found in a flock of CANADA GEESE on the north side of Aero Drive near Transit Road. GR. WHITE-FR. GOOSE are very rare at this time of year, and unexpected at this busy location near the airport and thruway. November 26, a late WILLET was reported at the south end of the Bird Island Pier in Buffalo. It is possible that this is the same bird that was at the pier back on September 20. Also seen from the pier and LaSalle Park, several distant PURPLE SANDPIPERS and DUNLIN on Donnelly's pier. Very few, if any, EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported last year, but on December 2, two EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported at a feeder, but the location was not mentioned in the report. From the lower Niagara River on November 30, 11 gull species were highlighted by a BLACK-HEADED GULL at the whirlpool. CALIFORNIA GULL continues at the power plants along with THAYER'S GULL, ICELAND GULL, L. BLACK-B. GULL and GLAUCOUS GULL. Also, a HERRING GULL/GLAUCOUS GULL hybrid known as NELSON'S GULL was identified at the plants, plus PEREGRINE FALCON and a surprising TURKEY VULTURE. Another, or the same, TURKEY VULTURE was seen over Lewiston Road in Niagara Falls. At the Falls, LITTLE GULL, ICELAND GULL, L. BLACK-B. GULL and GLAUCOUS GULL, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS and at the stranded barge, a PURPLE SANDPIPER. MERLINS were at two locations along the lower river parkway and in the evening at Niagara-on-the-Lake, 12,000 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and 3 LITTLE GULLS moved out to Lake Ontario for the night. November 30, on Lake Ontario at Lakeside Beach State Park in the Orleans County Town of Carlton, 1082 RED-THROATED LOONS were reported flying west past the park. This count is five times the previous maximum for RED-THROATED LOON in the BOS archives. The same day, a RED-THROATED LOON and 13 waterfowl species were reported at the Batavia Waste Water Plant. Three SHORT-EARED OWLS were found in Carlton on December 2, along East Lakeshore Drive and the Ontario Parkway. From Chautauqua County this week, at Dunkirk Harbor, 15 GREAT BLUE HERONS and 3 BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERONS. To the west of Dunkirk at Van Buren Bay, 37 COMMON LOONS and 200 HORNED GREBES. In the northwest corner of Cattaraugus County, at the Countryside Gravel ponds in Dayton, 100 LONG-TAILED DUCKS and 12 RUDDY DUCKS. And ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were reported at three locations in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties. Dial-a-Bird will be updated Thursday evening, December 11. Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may report sightings after the tone. Thank you for calling and reporting to Dial-a-Bird. - End Transcript "David F.
