Highlights of reports received January 8 through January 15
from the Niagara Frontier Region include BOHEMIAN WAXWING,
HOARY REDPOLL, LAUGHING GULL, BLACK-HEADED GULL and RED-
  SHOULDERED HAWK.

From the Lake Ontario shore, January 10 and 11, in the
Orleans County Town of Somerset, 2 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were
found at Golden Hill State Park. The waxwings were along the
trail to the west of the boat launch. Also at Golden Hill,
  40 AMERICAN ROBINS.

January 10 and 13, two redpolls, believed to be HOARY
REDPOLLS, were at a feeder on Ruie Road in North Tonawanda.
Also at the feeders, a COOPER'S HAWK and several WHITE-THR.
SPARROWS. COMMON REDPOLLS have been reported at several
feeders and along the Lake Ontario shore. PINE SISKINS were
noted at Allegany State Park, at the administration
  building.

January 11, a very rare LAUGHING GULL was seen at an
unlikely location - over the TJ Maxx plaza at Sheridan and
  Niagara Falls Blvd. in Amherst.

On the Niagara River, the evening of January 12, two BLACK-
HEADED GULLS flew past Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. Back on
January 8, a single BLACK-HEADED GULL was reported at the
Queenston sand docks. The CALIFORNIA GULL continues to be
found at the base of the Robert Moses Power Plant, and a
second CALIFORNIA GULL was identified at the control gates
above Niagara Falls on January 8.

January 12, a rare in winter RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was
reported on Warren Road in the Town of Darien, in Genesee
County. January 5 may have been the last date the WILLET was
seen at the Bird Island Pier in Buffalo. And January 10, a
RICHARDSON'S-type CANADA GOOSE was seen in flight with
common CANADA GEESE over the Lake Erie shore in the Town of
  Evans.

Other reports this week - In Williamsville, along Ellicott
Creek, 5 WOOD DUCKS at the pond at Reist and Glen Streets,
and another WOOD DUCK in a yard on North Forest near Heim
Road. A GREEN-WINGED TEAL was also found on Ellicott Creek.
BALD EAGLES on the upper Niagara River at the Peace Bridge
and Strawberry Island. PEREGRINE FALCONS - one carrying a
pigeon at the north Grand Island bridge, and an adult and
immature on the south side of the Cargill building on
Fuhrmann Blvd. along the Buffalo waterfront. SNOWY OWL
reported again at the Niagara Falls airbase; seen from
Walmore Road. A NORTHERN SHRIKE with prey in a yard in East
Amherst. And at a feeder in Clarence Center, 3 EASTERN
  BLUEBIRDS.

Dial-a-Bird will be updated Thursday evening, January 22.
Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may
report sightings after the tone. Thank you for calling and
