I also have to agree here.

I use the toolbar to tell which workspace I happen to be in, which
window  that happen to be focused and what time it is.  I also use
to switch workspaces.
I do, however, not use anything that requires the slit which is why
I disable it at compile time.

This is why I vote to keep the toolbar. The slit can be made a run-time
option if it simplifies the code (not perhaps making it smaller, more
in the sense of readability).
