I have also been fighting with this. I add:
enable_static=no
pic_mode=yes
to /usr/share/config.site. And despite this a lot of packages install static
libraries. I don't install the static versions of zlib or libbz2. I also
build with:

in gcc's specs, whic

Some of you will have noticed that I'm commenting about how to
prevent static libraries being built when I make updates - at least,
where it is feasible - suppressing static libs for other packages
such as cdparanoia will best be covered in the wiki ("let it
install, then rip them out"). If you d
I didn't read this whole thread, but if I were in Williams place I would just

For new readers: with the release fo firefox3, building the browser
app ('firefox') does not install pkgconfig files. Building it as
xulrunner does; you then have to build it again as firefox, with a
switch pointing to the xulrunner sdk libs (fortunately, the second
build is quick).

But I still want to help out.

Well that explains things. Please go away and come back after you've
grown up and can actually help this community.
At this point...

And in case you're not sure what that means:
Because everyone should know why Speex 1.2rc1 should be in BLFS 6.4.

You've already (several times now) made your preference clear using
the Trac system.
Why do you now feel the need to spam the -dev list with the same
information?

BLFS,
Here are the reasons why Speex 1.2rc1 should be used in BLFS 6.4:
1. According to Speex's download page, they highly recommend the
unstable releases. I think we should trust Speex's upstream here. See
http://www.speex.org/downloads/ for why.
2. Starting with 1.2beta3, all of the non codec
