 That isn't particularly uncommon.  The only packages which annoy me
now are those that don't create a directory - tzdata in LFS (it
seems to do it for historic reasons - some people used it outside of
glibc, or separately updated it, and that's the way it has always
been), and various zip files.  For the rest, go with whatever they
call the directory (e.g. texinfo, the various mozilla packages).

tarball, how he chooses to tar up his own package is up to him.
