Is it really necessary to install aRts in order to install kdelibs? I want (part of) KDE in a workstation that has no sound hardware. The book says aRts install _necessary_ libraries for kdelibs, but is any of those libraries needed in a soundless box? In gentoo (in the same workstation) I have KDE

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure if the "not DRI capable" error was related to the blank screen. It turns out didn't have the right information in the Screen section of my xorg.conf file. I only had one Display subsection. After adding others with different values for Depth, X Windows

sems i posted too soon.i exited from my chroot system.on reentering it gcc was able to compile dummy.c properly. i cleaned up the doxygen source tree.this time doxygen also compiled successfully. i am puzzled.why did the error happen the first time.and how did reentering the chroot sysytem solve
