booting LFS from usb-external disk

Hi, I am trying to boot my ( perfect working) blfs-system, which I copied to an external disk, also from this disk. My kernel is 2.6.23.1, the bios recognises the usb-disk and is prepared to boot. My problem: I copied "menu.lst" and "stage1" and "stage2" to the boot partition "/dev/sda5". When
