Problem has been solved by adding the -f option: /usr/bin fetchmail -d 600 -f /etc/fetchmailrc Where fetchmailrc is the configuration file. When this file is not specified fetchmail looks for ~/.fetchmailrc. Apparently during start up the environment is different than in a login shell and in LFS
