Thanks to all for their suggestione of what they thought I might like.
Now allow me to blow them out of the water :-).

Sylpheed is Outlook for linux. It wants to take over. It appears
obstinate and crashes (Pretty Outlook like, all right). It wanted all
my information - all of it, and wanted to start doing what fetchmail,
procmail, and so forth were doing quite nocely( This would have left
out spamd). No context sensitive help. I never wanted to use outlook
of all things. I ran away screaming.

Cone seems the business, except you can't delete text. I would give it
2/10 on appearance. I would pass a first year priogramming student who
produced it but look askance at a final year guy. We are having
separate battles here with mouses and protocols, and perhaps that has
some little thing to do with it. I will give this another go; sylpheed
provides (I hope) an uninstall target, and all should be well in the
world here thereafter.

I did copy over a .mailcap, file, a .signature file, and a .muttrc
file, lmake a symlink to my old version of mutt on another partition,
and I can run that happily enough. But it's mutt ::-(.
