I deleted DJ's reply to the original post and so can't weave my solution into his remarks. My situation was that I wanted to build JDK-1.5.0_05 from "the Book," SVN version. Since SVN is based on gcc-4.?.?, I didn't apply the gcc-4 patch, but did apply the gcc-3.4.2-+3 patch. I did everythin
