For future reference, you probably should treat pkg-config to be a
dependency of almost anything you install

Yes, that was the thing mislead me. I thought pkg-config was already
installed. But I double

Good work. Sorry, I just wasn't going to answer directly for you,

I need to install pkg-config. It is not mentioned as dependency (or at
least I failed to read this dependency).
Thanks for helping me.

When I try
./configure --prefix=/usr/local
It give me this warning (not an error): FreeType2 support is missing -
many applications won't work correctly.
I think that is because FreeType2 is not installed. So, I install

I am trying to install directfb, but I got this warning:

I have install freetype2 according to below instruction:
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/stable/general/freetype2.html
but still got the same warning.
Conclusion:
The wiki for building GTK-DFB on top of DirectFB has just been
updated, and it appears more robust/refined than the hint I was going
to write. I no longer see a need for a separate BLFS hint, so I won't
be writting one. The link is below:

Update:
I have successfully installed directfb and gtk-dfb. Unfortunately,
due to gtk-dfb lacking several key functions from the regular gtk, few
packages will actually run on it. Newer versions of gimp will no
longer run (confirmed bug), and neither will most packages I've tried

Hi
My apologies to everbody concerned - I should have read the posts more
thoroughly. Lack of time is my only excuse.
Unfortunately, I never got round to using directfb as a graphical desktop
environment. I am using it only as a graphical web browsing environment
with the links browser.

Thanks to everyone for the info. I'll post a hint once I get directfb working.

After doing some research, it seems like directfb would be the easiest
way to put gimp on on an lfs machine. It also seems that installing
it isn't easy enough for _me_. Is there any interest among the blfs
developers to write/update the directfb build instructions? Directfb
