At the risk of being too general for this particular forum, I thought it
might be useful to back WAY up and look at general approaches to problems.

One of my old mentors was a naval aviator. He would use the phrase

Since I may have to deal with a text only virtual console for some time
before I build a window manager, I need a comfortable environment. I
managed to get gpm working by using my host system to examine the protocols
and write these to the proper file, but get
ek ethernet. But,
nevertheless, despite a crude hack, I am on the net, and now I can, in
fact, do a BLFS creation from working LFS install! Cheers! I look forward
to a bit more "surgical" approach, but in the meantime, I have an OS I can
use. Love it.
