Does this operation work same as it did in XP? There's several different
items in the list that weren't in XP to check to have removed and just
wanted before I perform the action that it's ok to have it all removed?

It is the same is scan disk, chkdsk and so on, but, you can do it from
a GUI and not a command line.
You can alsow make it do a diskcheck in the boot process.
