This is correct, there is a subscription at either a player's level or a
master's level, which permits more privileges of storing campaigns and
home-built material. You also have to purchase each book separately, or
there are packages for more than one. Doing so gives you electronic access
to the
Supposedly, D and D Beyond has electronic versions of the manuals, but
there is some sort of financial obligation involved. I haven't looked
into it yet, so I really cannot say much more.
