bob, Very very interesting! I'm going to pass this around where I work as we've got a hat full of physiologists who may have opinions.
Might relate to ballance problems many of us have also. but it doesn't solve the basic difficulty of sensing the location and direction of travel. BTW, Mike May of Cendero group, gps fame, has been working with a company in France on a small, simple inertial navigation system for walkers. turns out it is very hard, so far not consistantly possible, to determine speed of walking using accellerometers the changes in accelleration due to walking are just too small and are lost in the 'noise' of movement and gravity. Last excuse they gave out was that blind people don't walk like sighted people, they were trying to detect the thump of heel drop to find individual steps and claim we don't do it right. Humbug, there system doesn't work reliably and they don't wanna give up. GPS just ain't got the accuracy. tom Net-Tamer V 1.13 Beta - Registered To listen to the show archives go to link http://acbradio.org/handyman.html or ftp://ftp.acbradio.org/acbradio-archives/handyman/ The Pod Cast address for the Blind Handy Man Show is. http://www.acbradio.org/news/xml/podcast.php?pgm=saturday The Pod Cast address for the Cooking In The Dark Show is. http://www.gcast.com/u/cookingindark/main.xml Visit The New Blind Handy Man Files Page To Review Contributions From Various List Members At The Following Address: http://www.jaws-users.com/handyman/ Visit the new archives page at the following address http://www.mail-archive.com/blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com/ For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the Blind Handy Man list just send a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo!
