Lee,
Do you remember the old Rambler American station wagon?
For those who don't the American was about the size of the infamous Ford
Pinto wagon only a little taller and not nearly as stable. Anyway, I was
driving to visit my Grandmother and hauling right on down the road when
traffic suddenly slowed down and came to a creep. There was an ancient
pickup plodding down the two lane country road and several cars were behind
it.
All of the cars managed to pass the truck except a little Rambler American
with a roof rack which was loaded with all manner of household goods. The
American made no attempt to pass so I waited until I had a good clear shot
and then floored my trusty Ford. As I reached the rear of the American it
decided to swing out to pass and this was going to be a major type problem
as we were not both going to fit in the available single lane. I honked the
horn and backed off the gas as the American then realized the problem and
whipped it to the right. This was most unfortunate and the center of gravity
was (apparently) very high due to the loaded roof rack and the poor little
wagon just leaned, wobbled and fell right on over on its side.
I managed to miss the wagon and stopped to lend a hand. Other than some
major gouges and scrapes the wagon was still drivable as we lifted it back
upright but there was sure crap strewn from here to the end of time.. (LOL)

Cy, you are correct at loading up that roof rack. when we did more
family camping we had one of those I call" hamburger " box's we
bought used and it was a Sears product. it held all the tents, sleeping
bags, etc. it mounted so there was an air flow under and over it. Lee
