John: You install Samba on Linux, not Windows. Samba provides support on Linux for Microsoft's networking protocols, which are still netbios based, if I'm not mistaken. It's been a while since I've delved into supporting Windows file systems. Janina John J. Boyer writes: > I tried to install a

Hi Again, John: A ten year old machine is certainly something you've gotten good use of! Most people don't keep their machines that long, except perhaps those of us running Linux. My oldest just now is my 2008 era Thinkpad X61s laptop. I'm personally considering between a few fixes to it vs somet

Aha, the magic piece of info you haven't previously provided, Kristoffer! At least, I don't recall you ever telling us you're trying to run speech over jack. Don't do that. Reserve jack for your high end audio devices where you use Audacity, or software like that. Jack doesn't belong on the device

I think it's a little hasty to tell people not to try ubuntu 16.04. I've installed ubuntu 16.04 so often that I eventually took the time to configure a pxe installation server. I've never had it crash. Your problem might have been a hardware failure or a kernel bug. Ubuntu compiles it's own ker
