A directory that I have was strangely changed into a file. Is there a
way to change it back to a directory? I think cvs was doing it. It's
very odd.
The directory was in a fat drive that was mounted in fstab as:
/dev/hdb1 /mnt/100gig auto
rw,users,umask=0,gi

I had to make some changes to valgrind so that it could be used to
run the `make check' tests in the GNU coreutils package.
Note that to get the test scripts to run the tools via valgrind,
I tweak every Makefile.am under the coreutils/tests/ hierarchy in
order to run each program via its own wrappe
