I can browse the grub archive and FAQ but cannot answer this question

How can i deny runlevel 1 in grub ? Or protect it with password ?

Does Grub 0.5.97 calculate the kernel size wrong?
It reports a size 7 byte less than Grub 0.5.95.
That's fine. That's just because of an alignment.

when the system starts up, there is this message - i think it says
"GRUB loading stage2" or something similar - then the dots and when
the dots are all there the system halts ... :-?

Use the `password' command in your menu.lst. From the GRUB texi
manual:
- Command: password passwd [new-config-file]
I'm happy to say that GRUB 0.5.96.1 has been released. We've made
this release even though we said the next one would be 1.0, because
there were a few serious bugs with 0.5.96.
You can get it, and floppy image, from
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/grub/
It will also appear shortly on the Debian

Would it be possible to allow only subscribers to post to this list.
I strongly object to that, because GRUB users wouldn't be able to
contact us easily.
I've added APM BIOS information support into GRUB and updated the
Multiboot Specification. I hope that this will be useful. Next, I'll
work on graphics support. If this is finished, all we must do will be
stabilize GRUB and enhance the docs.
