grub wont find files on new partition with linux install

I am using grub v-0.97 to boot multiple os's. computer is set up: hda1-winxp, hda2-vfat which has grub folder, hda3-ubuntu, hda5-swap, hda6-some linux distro, hda7-some linux distro, hda8-vfat data, hda9-vfat data, hda10-ext2 /home. I set the partition flag on hda2 active so the bios will read
