To try to identify the problem I had with error: no such device:
bfdeb6d6-0b77-4beb-a63d-bdc3e455b8ea, I removed all but the boot disk
and edited the boot entry for Linux on my ext3 /boot filesystem when
GRUB started:
menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, Linux 2.6.30 {
set root=(hd0,1)
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #26744 (project grub):
Now have it working by making sure echo and hello are first in the list of
modules to put into the image usng grub-mkimage. There is presumably an
ordering issue but this is not clearly documented. Or is it a limit on image
size on an efi
Yes use grub2. We don't support anymore grub-legacy.
