Follow-up Comment #2, bug #31548 (project grub): "BOOT DISK FAILURE" is a BIOS message and not one from GRUB. It means probably that your BIOS isn't configured to boot from right disk. Another possibility is that you didn't do grub-install on right drive (be sure to install to MBR e.g. grub-install /dev/sda and not grub-install /dev/sda1). Also some BIOSes check that at least one partition is active. Be sure that it's the case especially if you use GPT (then protective entry must be active)
