Summary: Please include information in vbeinfo whether a gfxmode uses a planar memory layout Project: GNU GRUB Submitted by: robinsmidsrod Submitted on: Fri 28 Jan 2011 02:48:03 PM GMT Category: Terminal Severity: Major Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Feature Request Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: Robin Smidsrød Originator Email: ro...@smidsrod.no Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Release: Release: 1.98 Reproducibility: Every Time Planned Release: None _______________________________________________________ Details: Some emulation software (VirtualBox in my case) are slow at emulating VGA modes that use a planar memory layout. The memory layout information is supposed to be part of the VBE mode information. Is it possible to include this information in the information vbeinfo outputs about a given mode? If it was included it would be faster to figure out which mode would work fast in an virtual machine. It would of course also be beneficial if the default gfxmode was changed to one that doesn't use a planar memory layout (only if possible), as they seem quite hard to emulate in a fast way. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?32277> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ _______________________________________________ Bug-grub mailing list Bug-grub@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-grub
