Maybe related: IBM e-server with ServeRAID SCSI controller same problem:
one can "see" the disks from a bootable floppy (or from the booted Linux
partition) but a grub 0.93 will not boot, it will just hang the machine
RESET is needed; reverting to 0.92 fixes the problem.

Are you sure about this one?! I normally start by doing a search for the
keyword that I'm interested in. An exhaustive FAQ increases the chances
of this to work. OTOH an extended FAQ might give

If I were you I'd make sure that I can use grub from the install disks.
That is boot from 7.3 in rescue mode and make sure you know how to mount
the disks. Also you didn't mention WHERE you've put the first stage of
grub? What is the exact config? Which id is which?
OTOH what is on grub.conf is n
I'd go for a small sepparate partition few megs or smth. Ext2 so doze
will not see it. ;-)
You put there the content of /boot/grub/* and /etc/grub.conf nothing
more and then install grub from folppy. You can copy the content of the
grub folder from a running linux installation, you don't need to

Can anybody give me a reason for which a 0.93 grub shell will
not set-up correctly a 0.92 /boot/grub? On a xSeries IBM (IBM PCI
ServeRAID SCSI and a 37GB SCSI disk ) I restore a full back-up that has
