Which did you execute those commands in the native environment or in
the grub shell? Is there any difference between them?

I have updated the debian package from a cvs snapshot I took yesterday,
could those affected by this error test the new package when they get it
and let me know if this bug is still active.
For now I have closed this bug.

I already reported this bug (see #80241). The current CVS Grub does
not appear to have this problem...
