What happens, if you install GRUB this way:
grub> root (hd0,0)
grub> install /boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0) /boot/grub/stage2 p
Please do this using a GRUB boot floppy rather than the grub shell.

I've ran 'grub-install /dev/hda' as well as grub with commands 'root
(hd0,0)' 'setup (hd0)' 'quit'
Then when I rebooted the machine, I'd get the error: "GRUB Read Error".
LILO works fine.
In the BIOS it has an option "Large Disk Access Mode" with options "DOS"
