Addendum:
With my original BIOS settings, the geometry (hd2) command gives:
C/H/S = 1023/16/63 Number of sectors 1031184
And I have switched back to the LBA mode in the BIOS. It
autodetects and sets
1027 cylinder
255 heads
63 sectors
This is only 8gig but it works fine.
