I've managed to get the same problem as Justin Langer.
Here is a backtrace, it's the same as Justin's:

I compiled the stock firmlink source with this line:
gcc -ggdb -D_GNU_SOURCE -I. -o firmlink firmlink.orig.c -ltrivfs
-lfshelp
You need to link with the cthread library.
