------ I figured I should start myself :) This is the niche it fills for me: "With the Hurd, users can change anything in their system which doesn't affect other users - even stuff deep down in the core." And this is one definition of freedom in a community: "Do what you want as long as you don't restrict others from doing what they want." I like my freedom - in my life as well as in technology. (in more detail: http://bddebian.com/~wiki/community/weblogs/ArneBab/ ) - Arne Babenhauserheide ------ For me the Hurd is the operating system where anybody can set up his own rules. The possibility to customize things that lie at deepest levels in other operating systems makes the Hurd a kind of a playground for me. Under the Hurd one can find out quite easily what are the building blocks out of which one's operating system is constructed and change some of these blocks to see what will happen ;-) Also, I consider that the Hurd is a very good learning ground for me: during GSoC a learnt a lot of new things, many of which I hadn't even heard of before. And such things are still falling on me out of the blue sky giving me further enthusiasm :-) - scolobb ------ @others: So, what is YOUR reason for working on the Hurd? I'm sure there are many different reasons, and these can also help finding additional niches for the Hurd itself.
