I think what OP was referring to is that two ties are placed on top of
each other (it looks a bit thicker). Perhaps something like the
following would be preferable.

Hi Knute,
Note how there only seem to be five ties for six notes. If you zoom in
on the
second-highest "tie" at a higher resolution, you'll see it's actually
two ties
almost wholly overlapping.
