Bitstream Vera Sans (1.1) = 64.4 kB
Verdana (2.35) = 136.4 kB
The difference is 72 kB, but since users can choose any font they like
it may not be
worth

well d'oh - the entire output pipeline changed between 2.4 and 2.6 ,
with direct
postscript output iso. TeX.
