everyone is getting very confused here.
The issue is that (except for the music fonts, and the Century
Schoolbook), the fonts
that lilypond embeds is

LilyPond 2.10 on Windows includes the Verdana font in the PS output,
and thats why the file size is ~30k larger.
On MacOSX, LilyPond 2.10 does not include

well d'oh - the entire output pipeline changed between 2.4 and 2.6 ,
with direct
postscript output iso. TeX.
