I created the lilypond.engine file for bash in TeXShop (you should say this text
file needs a .engine extension) and moved it into the TeXShop engine directory.

Please read the tutorial. Also, if you have 10.5, search the archives
for discussion about bugs relevant to that OS.

Hi,
I went through (I thought) the installation steps but cannot find a .app file.
I have a file called LilyPond
33.5 mb. But it opens to a blank .pdf style sheet only.
Have I not downloaded everything necessary?
Thanks for any help.

Please run setup again and ensure that a tetex package is selected

Yes, just run cygwin setup again. The mirrors now contain both the 1.8 and
2.0 version. In the near future (1 or 2 weeks) I hope they will contain 2.2

You must have found a very old version of LilyPond.
The current instructions are fully relevant for lilypond version 2.0.1,
which is what you will find on all Cygwin mirrors that have been

I have been unable to successfully run lilypond 2.0.1 under cygwin.
Previous versions (1.4, 1.6) ran well.
As can be seen in the attached bug.txt file, there appears to be a

Any thoughts?

Hi, I'm a non-Unix-user trying to instal Lilypond under MacOS X.
Got along pretty well - got fink going, found how to change the setting
about trees, told it to install lilypond-unstable and it did lots of
stuff. But it gave up in the end because it can't find 'ar'.

It looks as if you are trying to compile it yourself. Fink should
contain prebuilt packages of LilyPond. I'm not a Mac user myself,
and don't know anything about Fink, but 'ar' should belong to
the same category of packages as the compilers, linkers, debuggers
and so on.
