Randy,
I agree with Rick H and Bill C. I am in the 20WPM comfort zone and 25+ during
contests. I also have a key collection on display (~100 keys). I have several
examples of each as discussed below if you want to see/feel/touch/use any on
the air.

Have you ever seen a K8RA key? The inventor
and manufacturer Jerry Pittenger is SK now, but
the keys may still be available. See my QRZ page
for a picture. His key is hard to adjust, but is very

Hi Randy,
Feel free to stop by my QTH and try a few keys.
My standard setup is Vibroplex iambic paddles going to a keyer and then a

I second the Nye Viking with Navy knob; I cut my cw teeth on this one about 40
years ago. Then I went to the Bencher paddles and used them for a long time.
Now, my favorite is still a Bencher paddle, but it is the hex shaped one with

Randy,
More info --- Paddles come in two flavors….single lever and Iambic (squeeze
key)……the Iambic paddles are more popular ( I think), but if you are not going
to use Iambic keying then a single lever paddle will work just fine for you.
The Iambic does not have to be used in the squeeze
