Alex, I have a couple of Hermes Lite 2 boards, Walter Holmes is the
local expert on setting these up. Not sure I'd suggest anyone to get
this as their first HF rig. If you want to stay with an SDR transceiver
I'd look at the Icom 7300

A quick read about the Hermes lite shows that it is an experiment in developing
SDR. Development is part of our mandate as Hams. So, maybe there is or maybe
there isn’t a ready path to high power TRX. I tend to believe there is.
Anyways, kudos on your evident willingness to experiment. This
have a nice beam that helps that a great deal.
Amps can easily be added for more power as needed.

I got recommended Hermes lite 2 as my new radio. I want to operate on SSB voice
as well as digital. Are 5 watts of power enough to work the world or should I
buy an amplifier? If I
With FT-8 QRP, 5 to 20 watts, with a good antenna will do, but you will
need 100 watts or more for SSB (sorry).
