Nevermind. I figured out that all I needed to do was add an action to the
function call.
ORIGINAL CODE (found in join.ctp):

 <?php echo $this->Form->create('User');?>
<?php
       echo $this->Form->input('username');
       echo $this->Form->input('password');
       echo $this->Form->input('firstname');
       echo $this->Form->input('lastname');
       echo $this->Form->input('email');
?>
<?php echo $this->Form->end(__('Submit', true));?>

MODIFIED CODE (added to my home.ctp):

<?php echo $this->Form->create('User', array('action' => 'join'));?>
<?php
       echo $this->Form->input('username');
       echo $this->Form->input('password');
       echo $this->Form->input('firstname');
       echo $this->Form->input('lastname');
       echo $this->Form->input('email');
?>
<?php echo $this->Form->end(__('Submit', true));?>

Thanks
Doug
