Can you give a concrete example? The $content_for_layout var contains
the rendered output based on the view. Perhaps you'd be better off
rendering one view or another, based on your conditions. That is, put
your IF/ELSE in your controller action.

How can I change the variable $content_for_layout depending on a

Like if I use and IF and ELSE. For IF the $content_for_layout would
have a value and for ELSE, there would be a different value.
