you probably already figured this out, but I was searching for a term
similar to yours and noticed you were missing "echo" before your
$javascript->link
Should be link('js_insert', false); ?>

I'm using version 1.2.0.5146alpha and $scripts_for_layout isn't
working correctly. I have the following in my layout:
and this in my view:
link('js_insert', false); ?>
Is there something else that I need for this to work?
