It's not a mistake ;). The AppController file you have found in the
cake folder is used if and only if the AppController in your app folder
doesn't exist - the tutorial is indicating that you need to CREATE the

You can override functions in AppController by creating an
app_controller.php file in your apps directory. Search through this
group to see exactly how.
So in other words it's not a bug per se, maybe just an omission.
