I have an app in version 1.2. Is it better or easier to upgrade to v1.3.14
or should I go with v2.5 directly?

It's best to upgrade all the way to the current master, so 2.5.
But you can fix all 1.2=1.3 upgrae issues first if that helps.

Well 1.3.18 exists, so it would be wise to upgrade, as there have been 4
security related releases to 1.3 since 1.3.14. You can get more information
from the release notes for each release.
