That is the first Drazi reference I've seen on this listserv. And I am
definitely now going to start using those terms. Awesome idea!

Chrissy hits the nail on the head of why there are numerous callers (her,
myself, Will Loving, to name a few) who vehemently oppose the inroads
"lead/follow" terminology is making within contradance. Thanks to mentors
who emphasized that "gent" and "lady" simply described dance roles,

The other possibility is to give up your hang ups about gender-identified
names, and redefine them for your own purposes. It then breaks down to a
simple question, "Do you want to dance girl or boy?" (from my MWSD group)
or " I dance girl, would you like to dance?".

I could not agree more. Very well stated.

Hi Louie,
I saw this late yesterday as I was headed out to call the Charlotte, NC NYE
dance with no time to get on FB to post a lovely idea, and we did dance
333 at 11:30 ... the dancers seemed to love the idea of dancing along with
other dancers around the country.
Thanks for the

Why don't the terms "lead" and "follow" suffice? Is there just too much
residual baggage there? Because to me, it seems like the most accurate pair
of terms...

You all have inspired me. Last night I dreamt that the dance I'm supposedly
in charge of was being run by a whole cycle of random people pretending to
be contradance callers, that is, they had NO NOTION of how to call or walk
or teach, and most didn't even really understand contradance, with the
I have a copy of the VHS tape. Just tripped on it hiding in a pile in the
holiday cleanup effort. I know I'm many months late, but what the heck.
Happy New Year to all.
